The Test

I always thought that when the time came I'd have some cutesy way of telling Jon we were having a baby. Would I make a dinner of "baby" foods with baby back ribs, baby carrots, and baby corn?? Or maybe have Maverick wear a shirt that said "big brother??" Whatever I decided on, I just knew it was going to be something so fun and special that we would always remember! Instead, it went something like this...

Aug. 17: I took a home pregnancy test (the kind with the lines). One line meant no, two lines meant yes. But it didn't quite say what one line plus one reeeeeally faint line meant. Did I pee too much? Did I tilt it the wrong way? I knew I did something wrong. So I waited a few more hours and took another one. Same result! What the heck? So I went online and searched for about 2 hours to see what the experts and moms had to say about it. Most everything said yes, even a faint line means you're pregnant, but to take another test in a few days when the hormone levels increase just to be sure. A few days??!! I couldn't keep this secret from Jon for a few days. I didn't know what to do. If I kept it to myself I knew Jon would guess something was up. But if I told him we were having a baby, we'd be so sad if the test was wrong. I hid the test in a kitchen drawer (don't worry, it's not one that houses utensils) while I figured out what I was going to do. After dinner that night we watched TV and just hung out. I finally got up to get some water and came back with the test in my hand. All I could say was, "I don't know what this means," and handed it to him. So much for cutesy!

Jon looked at me curiously. I told him what I found online and that I didn't know what to think. He said that it would be great if it were positive, but not to get our hopes up just yet. Too late - they were already super high. Which is good, 'cause over the next week I took about 8 more tests. The ones with the lines (they kept getting darker) and finally a couple digital ones (that read "pregnant"). Woo-hoo!! A week after the first test I found us a doctor (no thanks to my physician who referred me to an OB/GYN named Dr. Licker... no joke), and set up an appointment for Sept. 14th. Three weeks of waiting had begun!

As far as the cute announcement to Jon... I guess I'll have to wait for baby #2... or 3!! :)
